Cyclepath will be closed Saturday, September 4, 2010 through Monday, September 6 2010 in observance of Labor Day Weekend. We’ll see you on the trail, on the road or at the brewpub!

We’ll re-open at 9am on Tuesday, September 6, 2010.

2011 Focus Cyclocross Bikes are here!

Cyclepath is proud to offer two new cyclocross bikes this year, both from the German company Focus. The Mares AX1 and the Mares CX2 are both equipped with the new Ultegra 6700, cross-specific chainrings (36-46), a chatter-silencing tapered fork and headtube, DT Swiss wheelsets and Schwalbe Rocket Ron tires. The CX2 model is carbon and also features BB30; the AX1 is aluminum with a standard threaded BB shell. Stop by and take one for a spin while we have them! Crusade is right around the corner…

Cyclepath would like to thank Moots – Matt Alford and Jon Cariveau especially – for coming out to Portland this past week and dropping the ti goodness on our fair city. Thanks also to everyone who came out to the shop demo and Short Track demo days in support of Cyclepath and Moots. We hope you had as much fun as we did. For those who didn’t make it out, drop by the shop and test ride one of the many Moots models we have built up while the sun is shining, or come in and talk dream builds with us. Cross season is right around the corner…

Sram’s new mtb 2×10 drivetrain – XX – is in stock and ready to test ride. Unbelievably responsive front shifting is one of the many highlights of Sram’s newest, lightest mtb group to date. Two chainrings means lighter weight, better Q-factor, better chain line, faster shifting, and no chain suck. Claimed weight of the SRAM XX 42/28 crankset with the GXP bottom bracket is 754g, and the 39/26 version at 730g.

Another obvious highlight of the XX group is the X-Dome Cassette. SRAM borrowed an idea from their Red road group when they started designing this cassette. The Red PowerDome is a cassette machined out of a single piece of steel for strength and precision. Despite the use of steel, it’s still lighter than just about every road cassette out there. The only problem with this design is that it can easily get jammed with dirt, a fact not lost on SRAM-equipped cyclocrossers, who often run Shimano cassettes to avoid the issue. So SRAM began with the concept that machined steel will be stronger, more durable, and lighter, and re-conceived the idea as X-Dome. X-Dome has eight of the ten cogs in a single body — acheived by nine hours of CNC machining per cassette! The aluminum large cog in back is press-fit onto the block of eight and is replaceable. The tenth cog is the smallest one, and is made of steel as well.

Sram’s XX group features myriad other technological advancements – all of which amount to one of the most exciting mtb groups we’ve ridden. Come on down and experience it for yourself!

This letter showed up in the Cyclepath inbox the other day. We thought it was worth sharing with you all:

“Two weeks back someone at your shop sold me two of your orange Fizik test saddles and I would like to say thank you, as they have changed my life and become the envy of almost every rider I know in Tacoma and the South Puget Sound. To have your arse sitting on something so vibrant, it’s hard not to crank faster, work harder and just walk around with a sexier, more confident swagger… like the sun gives powers to Superman, the saddle gives me strength… I actually have started wearing my tights under my suit so that I can ride at any moment.
